The Indian State Must be Held Responsible for the Cold-blooded Murder of Ganti Prasadam!

On 5 July 2013, unidentified men armed with hunting sickles and fire-arms savagely attacked and fatally wounded Ganti Prasadam, an executive member of the Committee for the Families and Friends of Martyrs and vice-president of the All-India Revolutionary Democratic Front. Ganti Prasadam did not survive the attack – he died in hospital hours later.

Progressive humankind is very much alive to, and aware of the heinous and  murderous crimes by the state against revolutionaries such as Azad and Kishenji in the recent years. The latest killing follows the current trend set by the Indian state.

Ganti Prasadam is the latest people’s uncompromising defender of the people’s interests in the long list of martyrs to fall at the hands of assassins hired by the Indian state which alone would benefit from such deaths.

Ganti Prasadam joins familiar names, such as, Azam Ali, Sashadar Mahato, Dr.Ramanathan, Purushotam and Belli Lalita who all laid down their lives in the service of their people. Surely their deaths are weightier than Mount Tai.

In this past decade, the state power has stepped up its war against the people of India, above all, illegally and wantonly grabbing  the land of aboriginal tribal people (Adhivasi) in the densely forested interior of central India for their handover to Indian and multinational mining corporations. These are in collaboration with the powers-that-be, are on a wild rampage of plunder, profit and rape – often literally of tribal-peasant women. When human rights or civil rights activists stand with the people, they are mercilessly and repeatedly cut down. Such is “shining India” today.

The war against the people ranges far beyond the actual theatre of war, that is, the militarized zones under Operation Green Hunt.

The Indian parliament has passed draconian laws to curb people’s rights and freedoms. The Unlawful (Prevention) Activities Act which further restricts people’s freedom and rights. And the Armed Forces Special Powers Act  gives extraordinary and far-reaching powers to the Indian armed forces to suppress the people’s resistance against various forms of injustice and oppression.

Hence the war is extended to struggling workers in mines and mills, to lawyers, journalists, human rights activists and defenders or protectors of the environment all over the country.

It is against such a background that people throughout the world must view that assassination of Ganti Prasadam.
